🦟 Mosquito & Vector-Based Issues: The Most Undertaken Yet Least Discussed

šŸŒ Understanding Mosquito Fauna

Did you know there are over 3,700 species of mosquitoesĀ worldwide? In India alone, 393 mosquito speciesĀ are known to occur, belonging to two main subfamilies:

  • Anophelinae – 61 species (1 genus)

  • Culicinae – 332 species across 48 genera and 11 tribes

Among these, the tribe AediniĀ contains the highest number of species – 176 in total. With recent taxonomic revisions, the number of recognized mosquito genera in India has risen from 22 to 49.

āš ļø Disease Transmission & Public Health Impact

At present, 31 mosquito species in IndiaĀ are officially recognized as disease vectors.

These tiny insects are major carriers of:

  • Malaria

  • Dengue

  • Chikungunya

  • Yellow Fever

  • Lymphatic Filariasis (Elephantiasis)

  • Japanese Encephalitis

It’s important to note:šŸ”¹ Only female mosquitoesĀ bite and transmit diseasesšŸ”¹ They belong to the family CulicidinaeĀ (Order: Diptera)šŸ”¹ India contributes nearly 12% to the global dengue burden

🧪 Vectors – The Invisible Threat

In public health, the word "vector"Ā refers to any organism that transmits infectious agentsĀ to humans or animals. Mosquitoes are among the most efficient and widespread vectorsĀ known, often co-existing in swarms, with short life spans but high impact.

🌿 Our Journey Toward a Safer Natural Solution

At Tejasvani Organics, we have always relied on natural remedies rooted in AyurvedaĀ and sustainable science. Years ago, while working in the fields during monsoon season, we found ourselves vulnerable to bites both indoors and outdoors. But we were unwilling to apply chemical-based repellentsĀ on skin or inhale them indoors.

So, we developed a natural mosquito repellent oil:

  • 🌻 Sunflower oilĀ as the base

  • 🌿 Essential oilsĀ like citronella, lemongrass, eucalyptus, and neem

  • 🧓 Skin-safe, long-lasting, and chemical-free

šŸ’” Evolving with Technology

Earlier, dispersing natural oils was a challenge. But today, with improved technology, we’re working to make these repellents available in multiple safe delivery forms:

āœ… Roll-ons & body oil – perfect for outdoor protection

āœ… Plug-in diffusers – ideal for home and office use

āœ… Commercial humidifier solutions – for large indoor spaces

We believe prevention is the best protection — and nature offers the cleanest way to do it.
